Retreat to Alagna, Italy

Today the good weather came to an end, our aim, after 2 days of increasing distance and height gain, was to attempt Liskamm, initially the East summit, but both if we could.
However the cloud was down and the wind had risen.

The only thing to do was to go back to bed for a few hours and see if things changed ... Money was tight and we did not have enough cash to last additional days, the huts did not take credit cards in those days and you had to bring Lire (yes it was before European currency unification) up from the valley in wads.

When the clouds remained we had not real choice but to retreat to the valley, to see what the forecast was and how things could improve and when.
