Sestriere, Italy

The forecast for today was clear to start with and getting cloudy towards noon and a good chance of precipitation towards the end of the day.

We went to Sestriere .. the extension to the ski resort at Montgenevre over the border in Italy. In full season it is possible catch the connection lifts, but with the dearth of snow these were mainly closed.

We drove over the border and went up to the town of Sestriere, - this was a disappointment - very concrete and ugly, and I have an abiding memory of coaches everywhere - presumably bussing in from the surrounding resorts.

We bought a day pass and headed up to the top of Mt Sises above the town, before crossing to the sister mountain Mt Motta.  on both we could only really stick to the prepared lines where there was snow generation ... the rest was very rotten.

As most of the options were not really on we repeated this route before cutting back to the first mountain. The clouds were now getting quite heavy, and the snow very wet and heavy, so we cut back to the town and an early coffee.

An experiment, but not very successful, but mainly due to the snow conditions and also the fact that the resort is far too commercial for me.
