This year we planned to make another attempt on the Haute route, but instead of trying to do the whole trip in one go, we would select sections as the weather allowed. We planned to go to Chamonix where we knew we could do some valley warm up routes and then see what the weather allowed, trying to avoid the bow wave of those doing the complete route.We packed the van up and headed out across the channel, heading for the camping mer de glace in Les Praz.
