Termignon, France

Another grey day .. the girls and M-J decided to stay around the apartment.

Chris and I wanted to get out, so we chose to take a look at the map and see if there was a route we could skin close by .. after the route we had done with Bryon a few years before on the other side of the valley, we hoped for something similar.

The map showed a route going up a path, and marked with a ski route.

We set off down the track behind the apartment looking for the turn off.  There were some strange buildings on the map that turned out to be the local slurry pit for the cows. the next buildings were where the turn-off was ...  This was a small track behind a hedge.

We followed this upwards through the pastures, before it left into the woods.

The track was very churned up by people walking up and then overnight had been frozen solid ..  it was very hard going.

We could not forget about the descent all the way up .. there was little in the way of escape routes, so once we got tot the point where the route turned north, we arrived a small hut, where we lost the path, but also allowed us to take a break, and look down into the valley.

We turned around at this point, and gingerly felt our way back down the track...  large snowploughs to control the descent, until we broke out of the woods onto the meadows.

On the meadows we were able to go straight down, avoiding the barbedwire, and hence back to the track at the bottom, and back to the apartment.

A strange day, but did give us some hints of what we should avoid on the paths.
