Grand St Bernard, Switzerland

Exploring the area, we found that a number of routes left from the car park by the tunnel entrance at the head of the valley.

We headed up there with the aim to take a trip up to the hospice and do some exploring.

The route follows the summer road as it twists around keeping a fairly constant gradient.

There was a strange structure part way up, that we later found out was a ventilation shaft for the tunnel.

At about the half way point there was a little shack, which seems to be a shelter in case of bad weather.

From here the route went around the corner and the hospice was finally visible on the sky line

The hospice was very quiet as there was just a few day trippers.

After taking in the views and having a good look around.

We prepared to ski back down.
The skiing was uncomplicated, and followed well worn tracks.

Back at the car we headed back to the gite. A good day and lots of info for future visits.
