The next day the clouds were back. We were going to change valleys the next day so nothing would be gained by staying in the shack, so we opted for a shorter (or so we thought) route.
We were the only car in the car park, so there was no other people quite as "touched" as we were.
The track went around the mountain to a remote chapel, before heading into the trees.
the route followed the summer trail, but there was not much trace of it apart from ski tracks.
The trail became more indistinct as the trees closed in, all the while we followed enough of a trace
The route cut around until it hit the descent route .... which was a much more open clearing heading up into the mist and presumably the summit.
We followed this trail upwards
Climbing up we eventually came upon a fore summit, and a steep descent. A brief discussion about if this was the top, or if it was as far as we would reach. There was an evil looking ridge heading upwards after the descent.
Bryon backed his GPS and headed into the mist. the route skirted around the ridge and into a bowl before rising to the real top.
There was not a lot or room on the top, but space for a few photos and a retreat tot he ski depot, to prepare for the descent.
the descent down into the first bowl was a little tricky - flat light and breakable crust, but soon traversed around to the wide descent swathe.
The skiing here was better and there were some excellent sport to be had.
As the descent came to an end it finished on a track that lead back to the chapel and hence to the van.
