Sattelberg, Austria

The next day was very much the same as the previous ...  the sky was clear, and apart from remembering to put all the equipment in the van at the start of the day, followed much the same itinerary as we headed to much the same place, but closer to the motorway, just outside a small town called Gries am Brenner. The route was a speculative one. the day before we had seen a large number of cars parked just off the road.

Leaving the car in the car park we followed the obvious trail , initially quite icy, through the pastures towards the tree line.

In the trees again it was much like the day before ....  a narrow trail winding up through the forest.
Avoiding the obstacles
 And clearer patches
Finally breaking out onto the open slopes above.
With the first views of the summit
Not quite all to ourselves ...  there were 3 other parties up there, but not the hordes form the day before. Fantastic views all around
The descent was fabulous..  powder and fresh slopes , great conditions.
Beyond this, as the snow was more cut up and the conditions got more icy and harder ridges, making it difficult to ski outside the trails from the days before.
This soon lead to a ski slope ...  not marked on the maps, but certainly known to the locals. we followed this down to the village and continued down to the town at the bottom.. this made much simpler skiing than fighting the rough tracks.
Back at the van time to test out the chairs, and bask in the sun, shaded from the wind.
Another successful day.
