Craig y Forwyn Xmas trip

John's friend offered to take us to his local crag - Craig y Forwyn, to do some rock climbing ...  It had been years since I last did any, and I had to borrow gear from the school stores. Bog boots, walking clothes and a waist harness from the stores, with a rope, slings and some protection.

We parked at the end of the road, and walked up through the trees to the end of the cliffs.

First up was Softly Softly, one at a time, John, myself then Jim.

Then after coming back down Staircase gully as a scramble and then we finished on Y Chimneys.

Then back to the car and home ...  It does take a long time one after the other on a top rope.


This was just the motivation I needed to spend out on some rock boots ..  EBs were the vogue item.

Great Orme, Xmas Trip

The clouds were down and there was rain in the wind ... We chose to take a walk around the great Orme .. we walked up the central road, past the mines, then on to the lighthouse.

We came back along the northern edge, back to the car.

Tryfan, Xmas trip

A start with a trip that would become a North Wales standard over the years... the clouds were below the tops and there was a light dusting of snow on the ground, but the main issue was the wind.

We parked by the cafe at Ogwen, and walked down to the other end of the lake, before scrambling up the north ridge and down to the the col barely pausing at the summit. Hiding behind the wall on the col for some food and drink, we quickly chose to drop back down to Ogwen, rather than tackle Bristley ridge, in the gale.

Xmas trip, Snowdonia

John and I had been talking about a further Xmas trip after nothing last year, and he had arranged some accommodation with one of his acquaintances who was a teacher at a school near Llandudno.
I traveled up with Jim, who had been with me on a couple of trips from University.

We traveled up by train and got a lift to the school where we bunked down in a spare dormitory - empty for the vacation.

I cant remember all the walks we did, and here are some of the days I can remember
