Grands Montets, France

First day ... the forecast was good, cloud to start with, but getting better as the day wore on.

We headed for Grands Montets and our usual mix of pisted and off-piste routes.

The first call was up the Bochard lift and after looking down the Pas de Chevre and remembering our previous excursions, and exploits.

We followed this warm up run with a visit to the top station and a drop down towards the glacier.

We could look over towards the col de chardonnet and col de passon ...  the target for tomorrow weather permitting.

We paused to look up and down the valley, on our second run to the top.

We continued to work the routes on the glacier side well into the afternoon. and only stopped when we reached exhaustion.

2006 Spring Ski Tour, Switzerland

This year we planned to make another attempt on the Haute route, but instead of trying to do the whole trip in one go, we would select sections as the weather allowed. We planned to go to Chamonix where we knew we could do some valley warm up routes and then see what the weather allowed, trying to avoid the bow wave of those doing the complete route.

We packed the van up and headed out across the channel, heading for the camping mer de glace in Les Praz.
