Lindisfarne

Sue had always wanted to go to Lindesfarne ... Now was a good opportunity so we set off early and headed for the coast,hoping the tides were in our favour .. luckily they were and we were across the causeway and into a slot at the top of the parking bays.

We would start with the castle, since the crowds were just beginning to arrive, so we walked through the village and along the road to the castle.

From the castle we went to the Jekel gardens via the ironworks, and harbour and the shore, before returning to the Priory.

Lunch on the beach and a wander back around to the car park and back across the causeway. A very full day

Back at Rothbury we continued along the road till we found a suitable picnic spot for me to sound out a tune or two before dinner in the pub.

Eshaness, Shetland

Our two nights in Bressay were over and we were moving on to a hotel north and west on the mainland, so an ideal time to go and visit Eshaness ... a renowned site of cliffs and dramatic coastlines.

There was a walk on the signs... later found this more comprehensive version on the walk shetland website. which followed the cliffs around and then back via some tarns.
There were several parties at the lighthouse, but we soon left them behind as we headed up the coastline.

Sandness, Shetland

Heading over to the West side of the main isle and the end of the road ..Sandness .... on the way there were some amazing panoramas..

Arriving at the end of the road there was a very small car park and a jetty. We left the van here and walked along the coast "path" - more of a guess than well trodden.

After rounding the headland we struck inland to return on the road there.
We passed these water mills - three of them - slightly run down but you could definitely see how they operated... an unexpected bonus.

St Ninians Isle, Shetland

St Ninians Isle was one I had wanted to go to for ages since seeing a picture of this tiny island, and the sandy spit (or Tombolo) to reach it. ... we parked and walked all over virtually doing a tour around the island.
