Golm ski area, tschagguns

The tops were still covered in clouds, although it was not snowing when we awoke, however the weather forecast was that it would be before lunchtime.

The snow from yesterday had turned into rain over night, and had left the snow very wet, but still in existence across the road form the apartment.

Today we were going to see if we could go up some of the tracks near the Golm ski area, and then return using the pistes.

the start was the same as yesterday.
cutting up through the village then, before the Lindauer track we cut up to the last bend on the Blue valley run.

We had to follow the Blue run upwards .... the clouds were still high and rain free but due to change later.

We came to the first piste side ski restaurant, behind which was a short cut across some chossy bank.
From here we picked out a footpath and followed some tracks up that .... loosing it higher up  and resorting to a couple of bends on the piste.

Before finding it again, and heading off into the woods. At this point it started to snow.

After a meadow and some buildings the path narrowed and disappeared into the forest.
The path went higher but in the direction we needed
We eventually came out near the Mid station...

The track here got very confused with a "Winter Wanderweg" which turned a figure of 8 around the station.

from here it was straight up the blue to the top station... the fresh snow causing issues with the skins slipping from time to time. The track we had followed had disappeared and later looking on the map - it took a very diverted route out to the right and back.

We followed a large water pipe for a while ...  this was involved with the hydro plant at the bottom.
The piste was steep in places and the snow - which was getting heavier and thicker all the time - where it lay was built up on banks
Visibility was really closed down as we got to the top gondola station, and we were looking like yeti's as we made our way to the buildings.

The top station allowed us to get out of the snow and shake the residue off our packs and clothes.  Coffee and chips in the dry and warmth.

Then time to prepare for the descent.... helmet, goggles and fresh gloves ... my hat and gloves were dripping.
The start down on the blue piste was on fresh powder over a good base, just the flat light to contend with. keeping to the blue gave more fun than the reds as these were scraped clear and just ice sheets.

As we passed the mid station the route changed and became more icy ... in parts desperate ...  then on the heavy wet snow back over the fields and pastures to the apartment. At times this was so difficult to get any momentum it was akin to skiing on the grass itself.

The snow continued to fall all afternoon.

Dinner was a pasta and mince/  tomato sauce discovery
