Knepp castle circuit, Shipley

Solo walk today, as Sue had to work. The weekend had been very wet so taking the opportunity of a break in the rain to get put and about. I had decided to go to a walk around the Knepp castle estate - an area that was being "re-wilded" and had a number of paths around the grounds.

Parking in Shipley where there is a car park close to the windmill we (Bertie and I) set off across the local fields to the edge of the estate.

Through the deer fence gate and into the open vistas. Bertie in his element as he quickly found the "all you could eat" buffet of cow poo fresh and moist after the recent rain.

This would be an endless fight through the walk.
Across the front of the modern Knepp castle buildings - still a private residence, with the paths kept at a distinct distance.
Leaving the castle grounds via the gatehouse and one of the drives, we then cut down to the river Adur, There was a line of 4 bridges that crossed the river and its side shoots
Turning South again down a farm track, we crossed the end of Hammer Pond - this was in spate and pouring over the end of the weir, jumping the bit where the water was leaking over the top of the bridge.
Continuing down the farm track, it came out at the farm and campsite for the estate ...  there is also a car park here for those walking the estate.
I Liked the bridge tot eh campsite that looked like it was floating above the pond.
Though the fields to Dial Post, where we came out opposite the Crown Inn. As we arrived the sandwich van from Truffles pulled up, so it would have been rude not to be tempted into taking advantage of the opportunity for some hot food.
The route back to the van followed a couple of "green tracks" first to the West then to the North. The tracks were fairly solid but interspersed with muddy patches.
The way back also provided the additional interest items .. first there were 3 Tamworth pigs hiding in the ditch .. no photos as I needed to get Bertie away, then some red Deer across the fields.
Also there was one (or what turned out to be 6 in the estate) tree houses.
Final step, past the windmill ... no longer working, and looking to be converted into a "luxury" dwelling.
Back to the van, where I had to rub down Bertie before he spread mud everywhere. He also had to get a good wash down back at home.
