After 5 days of OK weather bordering on good, it was time for the rain/ snow to
arrive with a vengeance. Here at 850m we were on the snow/ rain edge and woke up
to a bit of both. The cloud rolled in and out hiding the valley below, so ideal
for a rest day.
The snow plough had been operating since 5am on the road pushing the slush
around.
Originally we were due to leave the apartment today and find another place,
however with impending bad weather and also the exercises up at the Lizumer
hut we extended the stay for 3 more nights
We had a generally lazy early morning before cabin fever set in and I
suggested we drop down to Pill for some lunch and dinner supplies, so off we
set into the snow falling quite heavily.
As we dropped down it changed to rain after about 200m descent, but the clouds
still filled the valley
After getting some bits in the local Spar (too small for anything major - it
was difficult to find things for dinner even), we dropped down to the railway
station to recce out the train times to Mayrhofen - one of Bryon's delights
would be to ride the steam train down the Zillertaller valley, however he may
have to settle for the electric as it only runs in the summer.
We crossed the Inn river and then headed up the road with a very speedy ascent
back up the hill to the apartment for lunch.
The afternoon kind of disappeared in a fog as we relaxed once again with teh
rain/ snow falling outside.
