Frensham take 2, Churt

Its still hot, despite the rains over the weekend, and yesterday, so I only planned a short walk for today - a revisit to Frensham because of the sandy soil meaning it should not be too boggy. The plan was to park at Churt church (no height barrier), then head across to Frensham common at the Sculpture park. Then up to Tilford common, before returning past Frensham little pond to teh memorial and Frensham great pond. Finally down the Wey river back to Churt.

Parking outside the church, and heading off down Old Kiln lane.
Along the lane to pick up a path cutting over towards the jumps. the path cut between the expensive and "private" properties.
The path merged into a driveway that wound across a stream and out onto jumps road.
We followed Jumps road, around until we could cut through more "private" residences to Hale house lane. Along the lane to the Bel and Dragon pub beside the sculpture park.
Up a track along the side of the sculpture park that came out below the end hill of the Devil's jumps. An easier climb on this side - up to teh skyline and left to the top.
Looking south then north from the summit.

Looking down the north side....  the flashes. originally we would have dropped straight down, however a frisky dog was leaping around so we cut over to teh right first before dropping down.
Across to teh edge of the common, and rising to meet the boundary, then along it - since last time the boundary had changed and was moved further into the common - presumably the land owner the other side got upset with the traffic.
Across to Sandy Lane on a track (marked as a bridleway) through the private woodland. Along Sandy Lane until we could continue along a dirt track on the right, which ended at a T junction with a track continuing from the head of the T. The track went into the woods alongside Rushmoor and several horse fields.
Across a back road and the path continued in the same way, before curving around to the left. This path ended at a byway crossing from Tilford Common turning towards Frensham Little Pond. The track was bounded by private land on each side.
We reached a part where the track was washed away, however this time we could keep dry as opposed to last time when we had a long diversion into the woods at teh side to get around. We took a side path to get back to the back road and the café beside the pond.
Just after the café we climbed up a little mound and down to the pond side. Bertie jumped in for a paddle - it being too shallow for a swim.
We walked around the edge of the pond, until a path led up to the ridge between the great and little ponds. At the top of the ridge we turned south along it bisecting the two ponds. By now it was getting quite warm and the path along the top of the ridge was baked.
Looking down to the little one first then the great one later - just specs on the vistas.
We dropped down to the A287 which was running parallel to the ridge in front of the great pond, first through the woods on the west side then straight down through teh heather and gorse, passing the war memorial.
Across the A287 and down to the great pond, where Bertie found a gap to go swimming, and then along the bridleway around the end of the pond and onto Pond lane.
From Pond lane we took a path into the woods beyond and followed a path through the open access land that vaguely followed the one on the map. This track came out on a driveway and a back road, before we took a track leading down to the river Wey where Bertie cleaned his paws.
Up Barford lane back into the centre of Churt, before returning to St Johns church along the A287.
Back at the van for refreshments before returning home to say goodbye to Chris who was continuing his travels.
