We were booked in for Sunday Lunch next door, so Bertie and I went out early for a walk - also because the day was due to get warm again, I planned a circuit around the west of the river Wye, starting from Steph's house, going up the road beside the big house and curving around back to the Beulah road, across and down to the old toll bridge over the Wye and back through the town.
We went up the road to the old railway bridge and across to the chapel, before dropping down to the river beyond. This was so that I could get rid of the inevitable poo bag into the bin before we really started walking. Over the river and up the back road past the driveway to the big house.Down the back road passing Penllys contouring across the slope to Llethr - a modernist cabin.
After the building the road mutated into a gravel track alongside a wood and a grass field. Two cattlegrids (one without a gate), and it continued across teh slope.
Approaching Pen-y-rhiw, we dropped down to the farm buildings, before taking a bridleway into a field beside them.
This bridleway dropped down to a stream where Bertie cooled off, then up the other side on a slightly overgrown track.
The track went through another field or two, where we walked through grass fields. The actual path was extremely overgrown between two hedges and the field was a better option.
The path continued down a farm track down to the Beulah road, across the road and down a back road descending between high hedges.
The road turned sharply at lower Schche and continued steeply down to a stream (and another pause for chilling).
We stayed on this back road as it wound around to meet another slightly larger back road.
This second road took us to the toll bridge - the toll house with gates on one side and the abutment and gates on the other side.
We continued on this backroad as it climbed up to the A470 and the edge of Newbridge village. We walked back through the village back to Steph's.
