It had been a while since we had a gathering of the clans, so I had dropped a note around and we settled on something near the Long Mynd at the beginning of November. Bryon found a caravan club site close to Church Stretton at Botvyle farm underneath Caer Caradoc.
Sue and I set off early on Tuesday morning and headed over to Newbridge to pick up Steph, then on to Church Stretton. We arrived at the campsite just before 4pm to find the others had been there a while and set off for a walk.
We filled up with some water and parked in the bay next to MJ & Chris with Bryon & Sue at the end. Dominique was also here in a car that fitted alongside. We had to keep off the grass as it was soft and instant quagmire if the drive wheels touched it.After settling in and having dinner in the van from frozen food brough with us. We all gathered in the kitchen room of the facilities block bringing chairs with us. The rest of the evening was spent talking rubbish and catching up with what everyone had been doing in the last year.
- Next day (Wednesday) after much discussion around the weather and when to start (early lunch then walk or start now and pub lunch), we ended up with a walk over to Cardington and lunch in the Royal Oak, before back over Caer Caradoc, then following a similar trend we all met in the kitchen room for more extended chat. Walk details
- Thursday followed a similar routine with an earlier start going over the Lawley and to Leebotwood for a pub lunch and back to the vans. We had to dry out after returning and test out the drying facilities of the shower space at the back of the van - worked well. Then a final night in the kitchen. Walk Details
- Friday, we packed up first - putting all the "stuff" away for driving, and emptying the waste tank, then drove in convoy over to Carding Mill Valley above Church Stretton. We collected parking tickets using our membership cards before walking up the valley and onto the Long Mynd. Walk Details.
The following morning we left for home after breakfast and Bertie's walk, with a stop on the M4 for lunch, and also one at the Hoggs Back brewery for supplies (as we were passing).
