Canal Circuit, Loxwood

The rain and the vicious wind had abated overnight, however there were reports of flooding all over Sussex, so I chose to stay local and a shorter walk along the canal tow path then the Wey South path down to the entrance of Newpound Common, then across towards Kirdford, then home via the usual tracks.

I set off from home (once again in Wellies in anticipation of wetness) through the village and down the twitten beside Loxwood hills. The pond was very fill, then across to the canal which was also at its limit, with water flowing over all the locks. Along the canal to the Loxwood centre before continuing along the tow path past Brewhurst and Baldwin's knob locks.
At Drungewick Aqueduct I left he tow path (the next section of the canal is a dead end at private land). Now along the lane to the point where the Wey South Path turns off up a driveway. Along this and into the woods beyond and into Drungewick Copse.
Leaving the woods into the fields above Malham farm, then through the farm yard and out the other side across the ponds. Climbing up beside the grass fields heading for Loves Furze.
Instead of enterign the woods the path followed the side of a field going around two side and back into the woods. A curve around and through some really boggy bits led to the B2133, over this and into Sole Copse, leaving the Wey South Path.
Across the fields that bordered Newpound Common. Over the green lane and down beside Howfold farm, where the path took a sharp turn throguh the horse paddocks. It dropped down and over a river before climbing up to Durbans road.
Up the road until I could take a path under some power lines, this went through a field and down to a stream. the bridge over the stream had tape on it to indicate it was closed. I did not want to take a long diversion and with the experience of falling through earlier this year, I stepped over the tape and used the side bars to avoid the planks.
Up the other side where the path was not obvious but the power lines showed the general direction.Through a horse field and a fallow on to reach Kirdford road.
Along the road, and then Durbans road to reach the driveway to Chandlers barn. Along the separate bridleway beside the drive and then I reached the border path - this is one of the main paths to Kirdford, and I was now on the much frequented local routes. I followed the border path up to the reservoirs before cutting over the to parallel Wephurst path to avoid the really muddy section of the border path. Aroudn Wephust and then Orchard Cottage to reach Ifold and home.
