BOC Walk, Pitch Hill, Cranleigh

Time for the next BOC Retirees walk ...  this one was organised around Cranleigh, and would meander up to the Greensand way then along too Pitch hill. From here it would be straight down to the pub in Ewhurst. After lunch through Sayer's croft to Cranleigh Showground then around the back streets back to the centre.

We all met up at a café in the central plaza area, before walking back out around the playing fields to Cranleigh School. Finally leaving through the equestrian centre and out into the fields.
A zigzag (not on the map) kept us off the back road and across to pick up the path beside the Alderbrook Farm. At the end there was another diversion (not bad just kept in the field a little longer due to a faulty gate.
At Wyphurst farm we turned up the track - now climbing through the woods to Jelleys Hollow. An old house was under refurbishment. We picked up a few drops of rain along here, but it never came to much.
Then the steep final climb up a large gully to reach the Greensand way. From here we turned East and followed it along the ridge.
The South Downs from the view point was rather foggy - probably because of the slight rain
Along past Ewhurst Windmill and down to the car park, before climbing the other side. Surprisingly we took a round about route to the top of Pitch Hill, dropping slightly and coming up from the north, well actually we did not go to the trig point but rather the view point.
After a pause to look at the cloudy view then onwards - or rather downwards, first shallowly then getting steeper. Down at the back road we followed it around until a path into the fields around Ewhurst place

We continued through the fields, until reaching the woods of Gulls Isle, going around Cornhill Manor. Finally straight along the edge of the woods until emerging beside the Bulls Head Inn in Ewhurst,.
After lunch it was across and down the driveway to High Wykhurst, however we turned off into Sayers croft nature reserve, and around the south of the big house.
After a lot of stiles we eventually emerged onto the showground, cutting across it to the edge of the town.
Then back to the centre through the housing estates using the little cut throughs. Finally along the high street back to the car park.
