Sue was at Brinsbury again so I chose to repeat something similar to last week but the reverse way around, although I would make some diversions to avoid the blocked paths and also discover what happened to the missing path.
I started by walking down the A29 a little way - not really a pleasant experience - but it allowed me to get down to the railway, via the drive to a cottage. I had hoped that this would not have as much dew as the fields behind the college.Over the rails and into a scrubby field, where the path followed the fence line.
Over a back lane and into more grass fields - by now my feet were soaked with dew - I should have worn wellies!
Through a yard to tree lined track leading through sheep field to the driveway to Little Brinsbury farm.
Then into a large field - the map showed the path going around the edge, but on the ground it cut the corner off.
Over a stream and across a couple of fields to Gay Street farm.
Here the path was supposed to divide, but only one was obvious, so I followed it. This led up to the B2133 after a short section in some woods.
Over the road (in a knight's move) and down a path between gardens, and around a horse paddock. The path followed the field boundaries and into Marringdean wood (coming out opposite the onward path rather than as the map shows)
Across a field and up beside some cows to the edge of a new housing estate.
This was to the far end of the path I cold not find last week.
The path goes along the back of the housing estate and then turns up to the back road. Any path along the old marks was fenced off, and that left a section down the side of the road to get the next path.
This was the path I had taken last week after failing to find the altered one. It basically cuts the corner off to the back road where it curves around Kingslea.
Then down the back road until a path into the fields led towards Coomland farm.
Through several grass fields to reach the edge of some houses.
Then through the garden of one and out its driveway onto a back road.
Down the road until a path (beside a driveway) led between bramble thickets and beside a wood.
Through fields to Oldhouse farm and over a green lane (Oldhouse lane) before heading down a path between fences that followed a valley.
This led to Goringlee farm where the path circulates aroudn the outside before continuing.
Down the farm driveway, to Sproutes. Here there was a strange bit of waste land and broken stile, but the other side had a good stile so I crossed and went through the field beyond.
Across several fields (most with broken or damaged stiles or kissing gates) to meet the B2139 in the corner
Along the B road past Hungerhill farm, then into a large field aiming for the far corner. (There were some sheep hiding in the shad of the trees).
In the corner a short path through the woods and around a corner.
Multiple local tracks were in this field, but the one I needed went down the side of a house to the B2133 (Harbolets lane).
Across this and into the field opposite. Over to the far corner once again and around a horse paddock to Cattlestone farm. The path here gets confusing, but aroudn the outside of the yard got me to the drive.
Leaving the drive into a field with the path straight ahead. This led to a newly ploughed one beyond a stream, which led to further paths up to Goble cottages.
Over a field to join up with the West Sussex Literary trail avoiding more cows.
Down the trail and into some woods - this time i cut the corner off through the trees, and then down a more marked path
This led to the edge of Nyetimber vineyard. Around this and over to the buildings.
Down a main driveway to a locked gate, but the path went down the hedge for a while before I could escape onto Gay Street.
Over this and down beside a house and garden into woods.
Great views from here across to the South Downs, before dropping to a lake. then climbing up the other side (past where someone had strung a zip line over the lake)
At Roper farm continuing to descend into Nutbourne.
I struggled to find the on going path, but eventually up a drive way (with a free apple) I climbed up along the garden fence.
The following field the path cut across the diagonal, and onto a bridleway.
I turned along this and followed it with more views to the South Downs.
Through Broomershill farm and along its drive to Brook House. The path bends aroudn the various buildings then goes down the driveway.
Leaving the driveway and down a field to the house, then up a wide track between sheep fields.
At the woods, a nondescript path leads into a field and down to Broomers Hill Lane. Up the lane a while to find a path continuing downhill.
Across this field to the railway line - this time the crossing had stairs down and back up.
The outskirts of Pulborough - or rather Codmore Hill .. between the houses and along the roads (including the A29). Before a path descends down through a field to Wiltshire's farm.
Down the farm driveway to Parson's field and over a back road.
Over this and along a wide path through the woods and up a slight rise.
Past the Toat memorial, and down the path to Toatwood farm. Back on well used trails for me as I followed this over the back road and down beside Stablebarn farm into the college fields.
Now was just the matter of following the snaking path back to the college car park where I could have lunch and wait for Sue to finish.
