Bryon and Steve had headed off to do something on their own and Dave and I had previously arranged to be around when Derek and Nick arrived so they knew where to go etc..
However we did not want to spend all day in the camp site, so after a quick flip through the guide book, we found a simple scramble/ rock climb route on the Riffelhorn. This involved a trip up the Gornergrat railway, and a very short stroll over to a rocky ridge.
All the time looking over to Castor and Pollux from the last route.
There was a short climb to get up to the ridge, and a nice scramble up the ridge to the top at the western end.
All the time we had fantastic views of the Zermatt skyline
We posed for the usual summit photos, most of which had the Matterhorn behind.
From here there was a short abseil back down to the track, and a return to the railway station.
We arrived back at the camp site to meet Bryon and Steve, and shortly afterwards Derek and Nick turned up, all keen and eager to start something.
The plan was for all of us to head around to the Saas Fee valley in the morning. Dave and I would go with Derek and Nick to make sure they started their alpine experience on a positive note, and head for the Weissmeiss. Bryon and Steve would head for the Naddlehorn North face, being fit and acclimatized they were ready for a bigger challenge.
