Jungfraujoch to Konkordia hut, Switzerland

Waking up in the Stalden Hotel, was difficult to get out of bed, but we had made reservations at the Konkordia hut for the night.
The plan was to catch the train up to the Jungfraujoch, and then ski down to the Konkordia platz and then climb to the hut.

We drove down to the train station in Grindlewald and parked in the field opposite ...  paying the multiple francs per day, then joined the queues on the platform.

The train journey, for Bryon and I, was just a repeat, but from Chris and M-J this was a relatively novel experience.

At the top we followed the crowd out onto the glacier, and found a relatively quiet patch to prepare and get ready.

The route would take us South ..  following the river like course of the glacier.

The glacier is not benign, and it was necessary to avoid the crevasses. Bryon and I had taken this route a couple of years before, however that was in the cloud, this time it was brilliant sunshine.

The descent was a series of long schusses after a steeper section.

It was a repeated exercise to keep enough momentum to traverse the flatter sections. As we approached the Konkordia platz we headed to the left hand bank to cut over to the rock buttress that the hut rested on.

Bryon and I had been here before, but nothing had prepared Chris and M-J for the sight, and perceived energy exertion required for the climb up to the hut.

We stopped at the bottom and had a bite to eat and also prepare a ski lager to leave our equipment over night so we did not have to carry it up the steps.

The steps were arduous and we took it slow and steady. and before too long we were making our way onto the sun terrace.

Even the outside bar was open!

The sun gave us the opportunity to sit outside in the sun and recover, and also to plan for tomorrow - a journey into the unknown again.
