Gimmer Crag, Lakes trip

Toby and I were back in the lakes at Langdale ...  we had our eyes on a couple of climbs on Gimmer crag ..  The Crack and Kipling groove.

We were nice and early in the morning for the first, and were soon sitting on the ledge after the first pitch. I took over and thrashed my way up the crack ... the hardest bit being near the top.

Very pleased we walked around and down, only to find a big queue for Kiplings groove ...  undeterred we chose to go to Ravens crag and come back tomorrow ... not knowing tomorrow would be wet.
Over on Ravens we met up with Jim and Graham, climbing into the evening.

Arriving at the col

Sguirr Gughreadaich from Andorus
Another mixed day, and Jim and I headed for another section of the ridge.. Andorus or the door.. a deep notch up from the hut.

Glen Brittle from the summit
From the col we headed right to Sgurr A'Ghreadaidh, over a rock step, and up the crest.

Back to An Dorus then up the other side to Sgu.r A'Mhadaidh. A short scramble up to the top.

then back down to the col and out the way we came up.

Back at the hut we had to pack up, as tomorrow we return south to London.

Loch coruisk, University Easter Trip

The weather had closed in again ..  there was rain in the air. So we all decided to take a trip around to Camasunary, and then walk into to Lock Corusik.

Parking at the end of the road we set off around the coast ... the first obstacle was the "suspension bridge".

Then we followed the path around the headland to the infamous "bad step" .. not as bad as it was made out, and then on to the loch.

We had a look around the Coruisk hut, and a break wandering the end of the loch before returning to the van.

Coire na Banachdich, University Easter Trip

Coire na Banachdich
Sgurr na Banachdich
The clouds were floating around the tops, so Jim and I set off for another venture upto the ridge, and another of the land mark tops.

We set off from the Glen Brittle Hut across the moor on the well beaten track, heading into the coire before cutting up the scree on the ridge heading towards Sgurr Dearg.

The ridge narrows as we got further along it, to a large cairn on the summit. Then a short drop down the other side to the Inaccessible Pinnacle. Up and down and back to the summit, before dropping down to the col on easy paths.

Up the other side on more serious scrambling.

Then down the west ridge and back to the hut.

Tourist Route
We had a good day in prospect, but not expected to last, so no attempt on the whole ridge we settled on just the northern peaks.

We set off from the Sligachan car park, across the peat and heather, o a well defined path heading to the peaks ahead.

The path eventually zigzags up to the ridge, and some scrambling to the summit.
Am Bastier and Bruch na Frtihe
Bastier tooth
Continuing along the ridge west we conquered the Gendarme and after passing around the tooth climbed up the Ordinary route.

Then on to Am Bastier itself.
Bruch na Frithe

Am Bastier and Sgurr nan Gillian
From here along to Bruch na Frithe.. down to the col and scramble up the other side.

From the top we dropped back down to the col, and followed the path back down the screes and across the heather to the Sligachan.

We then moved into the BMC hut at Glen Brittle.

Quiraing, University Easter Trip

The Needle

The tops were all n cloud, and we were not confident in being able to navigate, so we headed off to see a bit of Skye ...  taking the road up to Portree, we stopped off on the way to walk up to the Quiraing.

Skye, University Easter trip

We left Glencoe, after packing the tents up, in cloudy skies.

Crossing the ferry (this was before the bridge was built).

We then drove around to the Sligachan, where we planned to camp until we could get into the hut.

Then a short trip down to Talisker, to tour the distillery, and also scout out the road to Glen Brittle.

Anochegach ridge, University Easter trip

The ridge tops were covered in cloud, but we still reckoned we would not get any issues, and set off for the top of the pass.
The ridge was not too complex navigation and we came down to the Clacaig well within time we planned.
I don't remember too much of the details.

Glencoe, University Easter trip

The club at Uni had scheduled a trip to Skye for the Easter break. We - Jim, Ken, Graham and myself, headed north in a minibus from the uni collection. the idea for the trip was to get some practice for a proposed trip to the alps in the summer, and walk the Cullin ridge depending on the weather.

we had planned a short stop over at Glencoe..  just to add in the Anocheagac ridge as a warm up, and additionally we could only get into the Glen Brittle hut after the weekend.

We arrived and setup the tents in a little cut out of the side by the old road opposite the rough area in the triangle between the new, main road and the old, back, road not far from the Clacaig Inn. After last year and the rain we wanted to be dry.
