Camp des Rochilles, France

With the clear skies we felt we had to go somewhere, but first had to sort out kit and stuff .. so we were late out, and would have to make this an exploratory trip.

We drove up the road to the col de Galibier, and got as far as the road was cleared - Plan Lachat.  We parked up at a point where we could get two wheels off the road.

With skis on our backs we walked up the road to a point where we could move off left.

We walked up the slope, which was quite hard and icy as far as a cattle shed.

From here we started to angle up the slope heading for a col on the left.

The route went up to the col, working its way between the rocky outcrops, on the hard icy snow.

Reaching the col, we could see what is over the other side and up to the camp, on old army barracks.

Then we took the skins off and set back down the way we had ascended.

The snow was very firm and spring like, so there was n issue in quickly getting our ski legs.

From the cattle shed we slipped down as far as we could to the road and walked back to the car.

A really good warm up day.
