Coastal Traverse, North Alderney

We set out to explore one end of the island on foot.. setting off around the beach in front of the hotel to the first castle .. now a private residence, which we had to circumvent.

Climbing up onto the old ruins of fort Albert on top of the headland, which was a Napoleonic stronghold guarding the harbour, giving good views.
Continuing to the northern end past the bays of Corblets, and Saye.

The road leads past a WW2 ranging tower, and to the Mannez Lighthouse.
At the end of the island and over a tidal causeway is the napoleonic fort Quesnard. and the ruins of fort Les Homeaux Florains separated by a sea channel.
From the end of the island we continued around to Longis bay and its large German tank trap wall. From here we followed the "main" road back to St Annes past this wooden sculpted statue.
Back in St Annes we did some retail sightseeing, and ended up in a café for a sandwich and coffee. Finally back to the hotel to relax and rest weary feet watching the people on the beach. Dinner in the hotel - a nice formal meal in quiet gentle surroundings.
