We due to go to the islands tomorrow, so we had a day in and around Galway...
the streets were crowded yesterday, and in an attempt to get away we chose a
"coach" tour. There was a brochure in the hotel lobby for a trip around the
Burren - this is a massive limestone pavement area, and a visit to the cliffs
of Moher. There were also a number of "photo opportunities" along the way,
where the coach stopped for 10 or 15 mins, and waited for no one.
We
hopped off and on at several places - Dunguiare Castle, Corcomroe Abbey,
Ballyvaughan, ballyalban fairy fort, Gleninsheen Wedge tomb, Poulnabrone
Dolmen - before reaching the cliffs.
We headed off to the edge of the cliffs and up to tower, where it seemed like the whole world had congregated.
It was a little slippy from the constant rain that had been subjected to all day, and we had to be careful not to get blown over and then fall.
We got to a point where the path continued around to Doulin, and gave good views back along the cliffs.
Back at the visitors centre we returned to the crowd. Time for a quick tour around then back onto the coach
The coach headed back towards Galway along the coast. The last "opportunity"stop was at the cliffs of Ailladie. Later we found it out to be the main centre of climbing in the area.
Then the long trail back to Galway.
Back at the coach station, we were dropped off and made our way back to the hotel on foot. After last night's great food at O'connaires, we took the easy option and headed out there. Reflecting on the day, the coach was good in the weather, but I am not sure of being hurried along all the time.
