The clouds were down and the rain was falling that we packed up the apartment, back into the car.
Time for some exploration ..a trip to the north and check out some other areas, so starting toward Bludenz and then up the valley north east to Roggal, and on to Sonntag... the village on one side of the valley and the ski area on the other ;inked by a cable car over the void.
Continuing up the valley the aim was to have a look at Faschina and see what touring possibilities there were. The pass was well into the clouds, and the snow was blowing over the road, although it was a good road.
At the pass it was more like a white wild west ... tumble weed rolling around ... the wind was fierce and everyone was sheltering... parking was a problem, there was no obvious place to leave the car safely, and so we retreated back down the valley. After Sontag we took the other side of the valley, back to the main road.
From here we headed off to Brand ... the next valley west and slightly out of the area, but there were some routes from the end of the valley where the road was barred ... looks like they were viable given the conditions. A break for lunch in the lift car park, and some discussion about what to do next.
Without any other options jumping out we headed back to Tschagguns, and parked in the car park by the hydro electric plant. We were waiting until 3pm when we could get into the new apartment. After checking the lift cost and ski areas, we went looking for a supermarket ... back down to Schruns and return to the car-park - seems like an odd thing to do but it took some time.
Back at the car-park Bryon saw a sign for a visitor centre but unfortunately it was closed for renovation. Running out of ideas we set off up the village to find the route up the valley (we would take this later in the week) as a recce. we go to the end of the trail to the Lindauer hutte, and turned around.
The apartment in Pension Golm was better than we expected ... a large place to park, and we were the first in a row of three similar apartments all with sliding doors to the front. A double bed and bunks, with a table and comfortable bench seats. A separate kitchen area around the back with loo and shower rooms.
Outside the clouds had not moved. We would measure the snowfall by the post with the flat top.
Dinner at the restaurant up the hill - Gasthof Sulzfluh nice food (very much on the large portion side) but no credit cards.
