Montafon, Austria

Looking out of the window this morning and we could not see the other side of the valley..... nothing much happening today, with sleet, snow and rain forecast for all day. Neither of us fancied getting wet and skiing in flat light.

After a late(ish) breakfast we went for a drive around some likely sites for tours/
First off we headed out up the Kristberg valley ...  there are a couple of tours that leave from the top of the lift. ..  an older cabin lift, but the cheapest in the area.
At the end of the valley the road was blocked, giving a long carry to the route starts.
From here we went up to Bartholomaberg ... a route left there for Wannakopf ... the car park was in the centre of the village by the church ..  the road was getting slightly slippy with fresh snow, and Bryon took it easy on the way back down to the valley.

Next up we came back to the home valley and a look up the Gargellen valley ...  as we ascended the snow got heavier and the road was covered. the car was struggling on the summer tyres ... then came, the point on a long uphill slope where we stopped making headway.
Chains out, and we started again .. we pulled into the car park at the lift station. after checking out the lift and prices, we headed back to the apartment.
On the way down the hill near the start of the snow line, we lost a chain ...  stopping to take off the remaining chain then walking back to find the lost one, there was evidence that someone on the way up had stopped and picked it up.
After lunch we headed off on foot into the town/ village centre.. to see what was there, but also to find a new set of chains ...  the local garage had a set with a tourist price,  after a debate we settled for them, it would prove important, tomorrow.

In the evening we drove back to the same Italian as last night (Pizzeria Casa Mia) ... before an early night with promises of good weather fr tomorrow.
