On the coast road we drove into Bamburgh, and the castle right in front. Everywhere was “pay to park” so we headed for the beach carpark next to the castle.
Then down across the dune to the foreshore for lunch looking at the Farne islands and also across to Lindisfarn
Up through the gatehouse and onto the outer ramparts ... again views out to sea.
The main residence was on the top section, but around the outer bailey were a number of buildings to explore as well as holiday lets.
The inner courtyard had the main residences, administration and tours, the usual collection of large opulent rooms.
After this we headed back to the van and a cup of tea, then continued down the coast road ending up at Craster. This was the official start point for the walk to Dunstanburgh castle, but the car park is horribly expensive and pre-pay by the hour ... so we retreated back towards the camp site
