We left the campsite early today, as we were awakened by the families rising nearby ... so as the close-by attractions would not open until past 10 am we set off up the A68 towards Hawick and Scotland .. at the border was an in-auspicious lay-by. Arriving at Hawick we went off in hunt for a bacon roll for late breakfast, parking in the main car-park by the ruins of the cathedral/ abbey.
After food we explored the town and found the old Jail, up on top of the hill behind an impressive rampart.
The jail was a central building with the prison wings radiating off to the sides.
The exercise yard in between the wings.
The cell blocks were sparse as expected and also included the victorian concepts of work for work's sake
Walking back to the car via the ruined cathedral.
Then off to find one of the large houses around to explore.
