Danebury hill fort and Figsbury ring, Salisbury

On our way to see Steph for the weekend, we stopped off at a couple of Iron Age forts, the first was Danebury, just down the road from the Army Aviation centre at Middle Wallop.

Parking up by the road, we headed up the fields - these seemed to be the local exercise areas for the locals...  the freedom area stopped at the field above leading up tot he hill fort.
Beyond the trig point was the staggered entrances, and the rise up to the two/ three tiers of ramparts.

The internals were a mixture of  a large open area, and s tree glade in the top corner

We wandered around the inner rampart all the way around and back to the entrance. Here there was an outline of a roundhouse.

Back down to the car, through the upper car park, and the second exercise field
Into the van and down the road towards Salisbury....  Next stop Figsbury Ring.
The car park for the ring was up a stone and dirt single width track, with an over the top number of speed bumps.
The ring was just around the corner from the car park, following the boundary to the MOD training area.
The entrance was similar to Danebury
with  the centre smaller but similarly flat

We did the same thing again and walked around the ramparts, however this time there was good views across the plain and down into Salisbury

Back at the entrance we paid a short visit to the only tree in the hill fort which had a swing on a branch.
Then back to the van and then onto the house
