Morland Stroll, Penrith

 A gentle stroll around Morland

After the exertions of yesterday most of the crowd were heading home or resting, so Steph & I took Bertie for a walk with Sue and her dogs. The house had a leaflet showing local rambles so picking one at random we set off mid morning, with an aim to come back for lunch.

Our of the drive and down past the pub and café before picking a lane up then crossing fields to get to the first wooded area. Fields and woods would be the theme for today (with several visits to the rivers)
As if to emphasise the fact, leaving the woods opened into a field, before more woods - this time around the walled garden of Morland hall.
Beyond the Morland hall estate woods, we came out at a bridge (and stepping stones) over the river Lyvennet. Bertie got scared half way across because it was too deep and the stones too slippy, but he was persuaded over, with lots of encouragement after several attempts.
Interesting willow work on the far bank of the river, as we followed it back towards Crossrig Hall.
The very ornate iron bridge, especially as it was now just serving a farm track
An avenue of oak trees showed what would have been the driveway to the hall, before dropping down the other side of a hill to the beck (the one that runs through the village and house gardens).
All that remained was to follow the beck back to the village - first one side then the other.
Back at the bottom of the house gardens we had to walk up past the church as the gates were locked, and around the front.
A nice restorative walk to ease the legs after yesterday... now for the long drive home.
