Seaford & Cuckmere Haven circuit, South Downs

The temperatures were due to drop 10 degrees today after the thunder storms overnight, down to a more comfortable 25deg C. We set out for a short walk down on the coast to get the onshore breeze, and also to be back before the heat came on. The idea was to park at the Seaford Head nature reserve car park, drop down to Cuckmere haven, then back along the coast to Seaford, before returning over the golf course.

Getting to the car park was through a maze of residential streets of Seaford, then up a long drive. Once there we parked in one of the bays and set off down a wide chalk track.
Over the top of the hill we got a view over to the Seven Sisters and along to the lighthouse of Belle Tout. We moved out of the reserve and into the national trust open heathland.
The view along the length of the Haven, from Exceat down to the coast.

The Seven Sisters getting closer ... the main draw back of the early start is that they were in shadow and hence not so vibrant.
Continuing along the track through the heathland as it approached the turn above the haven
Back along the cliffs, over a slight rise, before the dip beyond.
The Hope gap give access to the shore, however we kept on going up the slope beyond.
Looking back to the cliffs of the Seven Sisters, before catching up with the edge of the golf course and a strange construction which is an airplane beacon (we found out later).
Reaching the top of Seaford head and looking over the town below.
the panorama from the top beyond Newhaven

Dropping down to the town was steep in places, before picking up a vehicle track down to the promenade
Along the prom, or don to the sea.
The Martello tower on the promenade - the furthest west of the napoleon era towers
Turn around and heading back to the van, however starting across the playing fields.
Walking up through the residential outskirts of the town, past a large house, and onto the edge of the golf course, cutting over the heathland for a bridleway that cut across the course in a straight line.
Beyond the golf course we continued to rise up to the wooded area above, and then into the undergrowth.
Leaving the trees behind as we came out beside a field that was fallow. following this to the concrete track at the car park. Back in time to miss the full impact of the heat.
