The van is still in the grips of Fiat Warranty, and Sue had chores to do so needed her car, so Bertie and I were restricted to home circuits. The weather was still stuck in the heatwave so it helped to be out early and saving the drive time.
I plotted a route going out the end of the village and down the lane to Lee House farm before crossing to Upper Ifold farm and on to Knightons. Into Sydney Wood and across to Springbok Estate and Alfold continuing until nearly at the A281 and turning down the byway marked as Hook Street. Then back through the woods to Loxwood and the canal route home.
We set out down the drive following the usual route out the back along the lane across into Hog copse down the road to Lee House farm - Julie's House
Picking up a track around the back of the farm in the wood. Bertie dropped into the stream - the first of several dips today. Then across several grass fields around Upper Ifold farm.A tight track beside Hurlands Copse led out to Rams Lane.
Cutting the corner off across to Knightons lane, through a meadow field that had the remains of cross country obstacles hidden in the grass. At teh houses we followed a track alongside and down into the woods once again.
Up the other side and into Sydney Wood connecting with the canal. We followed the canal around crossing the driveway and across to the edge of Springbok estate. Into the fields of the estate, crossing a grass field and into a grazing field
The next grazing field had cattle in it so we kept to the other side of the fence. An awkward gate transition where Bertie did not want to go under the barbed wire and we crossed the farm drive into a further grazing field.
The edge of the field led through some scrub onto rosemary lane leading to Alfold.
Through Alfold, including the twitten between the chapel and the new housing estate, and then down past the vets and through the yard beyond that is no mainly residential. The farm track out of the back of the yard led across fields towards the A281.
Just before the major road we turned down the byway - Hook Street.
Passing males farm and further water holes, continuing down the lane. The lane changed from a path to a green lane to a track as it worked down into the clay pits woods.
We eventually left the track before it left the woods and cut across towards Loxwood on a footpath. The path came out into the grass fields above Loxwood.
A zigzag to get down to the village across spy lane, then through a twitten to reach the B2133
A brief pause at the butchers for some delicacies then back home via the canal. The barley ripening in the field before Bertie took a final swim in the canal. Then back through the village home.
