I had picked up the first cold in four years - I blame the gathering of pipers at Luton last weekend - and had been feeling under the weather this week, so had not felt like walking for most of the week (aided by the fact of the rain that seemed to dominate every day, as well as the trip to London for Katie). However with the sun today I felt the urge to get out, but just somewhere local. I planned to make the way up to Sydney wood and then back to Loxwood before returning home.
The sun was chasing off the morning fog as we set out through the village, heading for the lane at the end and on to Hog Copse. then taking the border path back to Gennets wood lock on the canal.Along the canal path up to Sydney wood - this is the section the canal society has just gained rights over and although the path has not changed the scrub has been managed back. Onto the bridle path through Sydney wood to the Old Lock house then back along the canal as it zigzagged up to Firtree Copse. Still following the Wey south path as it cut the corner off to the car park before turning sharply south around the car park.
This brought us out at Sachelhill lane at the big crossroads, following this to Rosemary Lane. Across onto the farm track beyond in a couple of zigzags to cross the track from Gennets wood and continuing south.
This track led along fields to Loxwood, where we turned for home along the track to Devil's hole lock, and along the canal to the adder field. then back through the twitten and the drive to home.
Probably as far as I can manage as still wracked with the cold, but hopefully it sweated some of it out.
