Sue was going to Cranleigh today, so Bertie and I grabbed a lift, so we could walk back home via Dunsfold. It was warm but not too hot and there were occasional clouds becoming thicker later in the day, so it was good to get out early.
Sue parked in the main car park beside Sainsburys and we left to join the Downs Link path just over the fence, by one of the access gates. At Knowles lane we walked down the footpath until we could cross into Knowle country park.An incursion into the country park to get off the road was only short lived and we had to return to the road to go past the entrance to the nursing home. Then along the access lane to the cottages behind Knowle Park.
Through the houses and the lane continued as a farm track crossing a dip between crop fields. a zigzag through the farm buildings to transition onto its drive.
Down the drive to Alfold road, over that and down the drive to Great Garson.
Past the house and its associated residences via an overgrown path along a fence which opened into a crop field. Down the side of this to the canal, and over it into Mill Farm.
Through the farm yard (several gates) and escape onto the driveway. This tree lined track dropped to the A281
Opposite the driveway was a dirt lane that climbed up to Hall place farm, then Hawkins farm. Eventually leading to Stovolds lane (the old access route to Dunsfold aerodrome.
Over the lane and past some dilapidated farm buildings occupied by traveller caravans and associated "stuff". Behind all this was an overgrown path leading to fields.
Through the grass field to High Loxley Furze woods, with a very muddy dogleg access point.
Beyond the woods there were several sheep fields that finally came out to High Loxley road - more a track than road. We followed the road to the end of the Sayers land woods
Turning into the woods along the edge, over a stream and into more fields - this time fenced off with a circumference track.
A green lane around New Pound farm led to the outskirts of Dunsfold village and a building with bricked in Staddle Stones.
Over the back road and across to the Sun Inn pub, crossing over the little lanes to go through the common areas, eventually returning to the back road opposite Chapel Hill.
Down Chapel Hill and onto Knightons lane
All the way along the lane until it reached the end at Old Knightons house.
Where the road (now a track) reached the canal before the Old Lock House - the canal stops here as it goes into private land. We turned off to follow a path down the edge of the fence and into the Sydney wood southern part.
Leaving Sydney Wood we turned towards Lee House farm across a dip and into the woods of Thirds Copse.
Leaving Lee House farm we were on familiar territory and followed the Sussex border path to the point it left the road. We continued to the Lane and into Ifold, then along the usual route home.
