Bryon and Sue were down for the joust, and with the good weather I had suggested we also take in the re-wilding efforts at the Knepp estate, with a stop for lunch at the café.
Bertie was still not well, and Sue was managing her knees, so just three of us went off for a stroll around the estate, starting at the Shipley windmill and following the red route down to the storks then the yellow route to the café, before returning via the orange then red back to the windmill.
We parked in the usual lay-by in front of the windmill, before setting off down the track to the estate on the other side. The windmill had turned (I think) but still looked like it needed some serious maintenance. With the high temperatures we did not see any animals all the way down to the stork trees, which was quite disappointing. However on the orange route back to the café we came across this mother and youngsters grazing. br /> Into the café for lunch - always an adventure - and I did enjoy the beef ploughman's
leaving for the return we took the orange route to include the ruined castle (there is only one wall of the small keep left).
Then onto the south drive and up past the lake (reservoir for the iron workings no longer in existence)
Around to the new castle then along the drive way in the parkland to the return route back to Shipley.
Not that I need a map to get around this estate .. but included for completeness.
