Winkworth, Hascombe, & Hydons Heath

The weather had been almost summer like for a few days and today was to be the hottest. So I planned to get out and about - a walk to investigate if I could use it with the AAC. The aim was to start at Witley station curving around King Edwards school and past Enton hall to Hambledon. From here up Hydon's Ball and heath then across to Winkworth Arboretum, through it and along the back road to the farm. I wanted to see if I could avoid the B2130 then curve around to Hascombe hill, down to the White horse. Through the Hurtwood and Vann Hill, dropping down to Beech Hill and Hambledon common to return to the station.

I chose to change the start and begin at the White Horse car park, as it was free and no barrier. I hurried out to beat the elderly group about to start and along the Greensand way through the fields and up into The Hurtwood.
Along the top of the very wide hill, before dropping down the far side to the Markwick Lane.
Over the lane and selecting the top path along the ridge above Burgate hanger. (The Greensand way goes along the bottom)
Part of the way along the path merged onto a horse training track, before leaving it just before Vann Hill, where I merged back onto the Greensand way at this point.
Through a series of huge horse fields to Court farm, before turning south through a field towards Beech Hill.
I then walked along the back road past the small village shop. Then continuing along the road to a junction.
An unmarked path into Hambledon common, where I busked through the heather and gorse to the major junction (back on the Greensand way). Down a road to cross the A283. On the other side then a path down between houses.
This ended at the station car park (Ringo payments) and over the foot bridge.
Up a back road to then go through the King Edwards School grounds.
Through the grounds on a fenced off path, and between the playing fields. There was a massive ants next heaving on the side as I went past it.
back over the A283 and down the side of some houses on a muddy path, before it solidified over the stream and under the railway. Then through the woods to Waters lane.
Along the edge of Enton hall grounds and into the woods behind it. This came out into Buss's Common where I continued in the same direction.
The path became very well constructed (almost a lane) where it then passed between fields to cross Hambledon road.
Opposite the Merry Harriers pub, back along a scrubby path that touched my outward track at Court Farm.
Through Court farm, and passed the church then angling away towards the Hydon heath.
Into the trees below the Hydon's Ball, climbing gently at first before more steeply into the silver birches.
past the memorial before climbing up to the summit (which is also a reservoir)
Behind the seat and down the other side to meet up with the main path through the Heath that led to the main car park.
Over the back road and through Busbridge Woods down to Juniper Valley. Then climbing up the other side to South Munstead farm.
On the residential roads to cross the B2130 opposite Winkworth Arboretum.
I checked in (because I could add to their numbers) then along the footpath through the arboretum and come out onto the footpath at the bottom. I wanted to see if I could walk down the lane to Langhurst farm, however it had a lot of notices to indicate this was not possible. So up tot eh B road and along it - not my favourite part as the road winds and car speed.
Back onto paths when I could and following them up to the other end of the lane to Langhurst farm (land all fenced off at this end too)
Climbing up into the woods beyond the farm and crossing the Greensand way
Looking over Bramley to the North Downs, then along Juniper Hill.
Ove a cross bridleway and the beginning of the climb up to Hascombe Hill.
A quick view over towards Cranleigh, before following the path just on the south edge.
Across to the middle path, before a quick look over Dunsfold aerodrome.
The top of the hill and iron age hill fort, then down the north ridge.
Past one of my favourite sculptures and down the main path to the White Horse and the car park.
