Berrington Hall Parkland Walk

After lunch - Sunday roast of course - there was a necessity to walk off some of the excesses. Nearby was a second national Trust house with accessible parkland that should suit the bill.
We headed off to Berrington Hall and squeezed into the parking space - large van in a popular place.
From the furthest point in the parking area we walked to the gatehouse (entrance desk etc.) and scanned in, then up through the, currently being renovated, gardens to the main house.
After a quick tour we came out to the gardens and down to the haw-haw, where a small gate led out to the parkland. This was on the corner of the frontage looking out over the Capability Brown  landscape.
We followed the indicators on the red route - once again taking the prudent option with Sue's knee issues. This crossed a couple of grass fields and headed down to the large lake beside the treeline.
Down to the lake and around it anticlockwise, following the trail around the back.
A pair of Herons were nesting on the island (created by the out fill from the lake), and onto the boat house nestling in the far corner.
Around the end and back towards the house, where the access to the island was closed - because of the nesting Herons.
Back through the fields and up to the house, where we had to exit straight away as the park was closing. So back to the Leen campsite for one last night.
