The heatwave continues ... so if I was going to get out I needed to leave early, and find somewhere where there is a lot of shade. This combined with a need to call around the surgery to pick up Sue's prescription led me to a version of a local walk. Along the canal to the Sydney Wood car park, then back to Alfold Bars, along the Sussex Border path until turning down to Baldwin's Knob. Along the canal to the centre, then up to the surgery before returning home.
Leaving home at the time the school children were walking for the bus going the opposite way, I made my way down to the adder field and onto the canal towpath. Along the canal past Gennets wood bridge and lock, past bonfire hanger to High bridge. Into Sydney wood to the old lock house picking up the trace of the canal again and following it to the nature reserve. Around the nature reserve and up to the car park. Next across to Springbok estate, and around the farm of the same name, over Rosemary lane and past the residential estate of Turtley farm, down to the Sussex Border path. Along this to the B2133, and past the Sir Roger Tichborne pub in Alfold Bars.
Over the road and along the road to the farm before entering the woods behind it. I missed the path I thought I would take and circled around taking the bridleway through Hope rough. Through Woodlands furze and Hurst wood to the layby just off Loxwood road. Over this and into Jenkins wood, and another diversion - I followed the farm lanes around Baldwin's knob before re-joining the path - this would be a good escape route when the true path is boggy. Then down to the canal, and back along it passing Brewhurst lock, to the canal centre.
Up the twitten to the surgery, where I had a slight pause for a drink before continuing across the estate to the memorial garden.
