I had to remove the van from the drive for part of the afternoon and this combined with a dry, sunny forecast, I chose to see what would need to be changed on my planned route for the next BOC retirees walk that I was due to lead. I parked in the canal centre car park next to the Onslow Arms in Loxwood, and prepared to do the loop. After that I would walk home and come back later to get the van, but more on that later.
The walk started along the canal, past the canal centre and the pub going under the B2133. Walking along the tow path past the Devil's hole lock and the one after continuing to Gennets wood lock.Along the newly refurbished tow path beside the now dry canal, until it stopped at High Bridge
Now into Sidney wood on the forest path - the canal route here has no access. At the Old Lock house driveway, I could pick up the tow path once again.
Through Sydney wood now on the towpath, until it stops at the Firtree copse nature reserve. I continued next to the canal through the reserve (the old tow path on the opposite side is on private land).
The path through the nature reserve leaves the canal at the boundary and works back to a driveway.
Over the drive and onto a footpath through the woods to the car park. over this and down the eastern side of the woods.
Now on Sachelhill lane, following it down to Rosemary Lane. Over this and continuing along the bridleway south.
Out into the fields following the farm track on the eastern side of Gennets wood lake.
At the Sussex border path I turned to follow it to Oakhurst farm.
Along the farm drive way up tot eh B2133 at Alfold Bars and a short way below the pub.
Opposite the "Tich" the route continued down the road (also the Sussex Border path).
The road ended at Songhurst farm, and then into the woods.
Leaving the border path and following a footpath deeper into the woods
Across the woods to meet a hard packed path that led down to the car park lay-by on Loxwood road.
Over the road and down through the woods on the far side. Through Jenkins wood and over Baldwins Knob coming out into fields above the canal.
Down to the canal at Brewhurst lane bridge, then back along it to the car park.
Back at the van for a drink and snack, before returning home via a loop following the paths from Brewhurst lane to Drungewick lane.
Along the lane to the path across the field to the B2133. Over this and along the rough track to pick up the next bridleway to Hurst Farm House.
along its drive to Skiff lane, then past Beldhamland farm (residential) to the path from the sports fields.
along the the lane and back along the path to Ormond house, hence through the village home.
A rest at home and lunch, before returning to collect the van, later in the afternoon. This was the simple route back to the canal via the adder field, and along it back to the car park and the van.
