The forecast was not good for the start of this week, and I could not work out if it meant showers or solid rain. The start of the day was overcast but dry, so I decided to take my chances, but stay local to save driving time. There are a number of Forestry commission woods around us, all with open access, so I presumed that the tracks would be clear (and more importantly devoid of shrubbery that was still dripping from overnight rain. I worked out a route following forestry tracks in a loop ending at Plaistow, then following the Bread run extended route back home.
I walked out through the village and down the lane to its end. then into Hog Copse just after the huff house. I followed the main forestry track through the centre of the woods crossing the Sussex Border path, and into Upper Ifold Wood.A loop to get into Tidy's copse on a second forestry track. This circled around before straightening into Canterbury copse. From here I followed a footpath into the woods heading for Burningfold manor. Then along the horse track leading to the entrance of the stud farm.
Over the back road and into Lower Lagfold copse along the edge of some gardens, before it opened out onto a forestry track.
Into Langfold Copse, following a track south to Daken Wood. Then a footpath leading into the trees along Peartree hanger. This met a bigger Bridleway at a footbridge and I turned sharply to follow it out of the plantation.
Leaving the woods into a grass field, and around its edge to a pond before following the path into Oak Wood.
The pond had views back towards Durfold hall. The path followed the edge of Oak wood into Birch Copse
Then came to Durfold Hatch Cottage, where there was a large sand school and the path followed a narrow path along the side of the property.
Along the back road until I reached a footpath that I followed into Fisherland Wood.
This path wiggled through the wood, and crossed over into Durfold wood.
I joined the Sussex Border Path and followed it towards Durfold wood hamlet.
Leaving the border path to follow a side track into Ashpark Wood. Here I followed the forestry tracks in a series of Knights moves across the woods and came out a secondary exit beside the cottages.
Along the back road from Plaistow to reach Short's farm and pick up a footpath that worked its way around the edge of pasture fields to the driveway to Plaistow place.
From here I followed the normal Bread run route, also taking the diversion down to Hogwood farm. Back up the driveway and into Ifold village and home.
