The forecast was for showers all day, although heavier in the afternoon, so I planned a walk from home to save the driving. The idea was to walk up to the "Tich" then across to the Downs link, before returning via the surgery.
I left home and set off on the usual route to the "Tich" (Sir Roger Tichbourne pub) - this went across the adder field to the canal, up this to Brewhurst lock then along the track to Alfold bars.Opposite the pub I went down the driveway to Songhurst farm (the Sussex Border Path). Taking the path left on the top of the hill over the fields, then a knight's move to get onto Hook Street (path).
Across Hook Street and up past the house in an overgrown grass field. Then on the newly cut path around Horton Farm to reach the A281.
Down the narrow path through Pallinghurst farm, and into the field beyond. Down the side of this to the woods at the end.
Into Wildwood copse, and across the abandoned golf course, before reaching Little Wildwood farm. Here I failed to follow my planned route and continued down the driveway.
A walk around the field on a back road to get back on track, and then down the driveway to the quarry. Leaving the track onto a path through the woods of Shrubs copse.
Straight on at a junction to angle towards the Downs link, however just before reaching it, I veered off through a field and onto the driveway leading up to Baynards.
Passed Baynards house and onto the Downs link. This section climbs up south wood to go over the old railway tunnel which is blocked off.
Down the other side of the hill to re-join the old railway for a short section. then leaving beside Woodsomes farm, then down its driveway.
At Lynwick Street and sharp turn and onto another driveway down o a woodland workshop.
Through the woods and into a more open area of cow pastures. At a junction, I made a second mistake and followed a path back towards Bucks Green. Correcting this by back tracking then finding the correct path.
Down the driveway to reach Cooks Hill lane and climbing up to the junction with Hillhouse Lane. Next down Hillhouse lane to get back to the A281. Over this beside Lower Hill House, and a path into the grounds of the Japanese school.
In the grounds I followed a path back into the woods (marked as The Knob). Through this to join a bigger path in Hornshill Wood.
Past Greenhurst farm and down to Barnsfold Lane, and along to the house of the same name. Continuing along the subsequent track into the woods
Along the bridleway in the woods before angling deeper at the major junction.
A degree of clearing had been done in the middle. I left this path into a field that cut over towards Loxwood.
Into the fields beside Loxwood and around to the surgery. After collecting a prescription then I followed the usual Surgery run return along the canal to get back home.
