Sue had a meeting at Brinsbury, so while she was there I went for a wander around the fields opposite, taking some paths I had never walked joined by ones I had been on several times. The aim was a loop around North Heath.
I set off out of the campus and down the A29 to the driveway leading to the railway line. Ignoring the "private" signs as this was a footpath. At the house turning along the track in front of the rail line.
Down into North Heath, and along a back road under the rail lines to reach the driveway to Wansey's farm. This mutated into a bridleway along the far side of the railway.
Along the farm track as it turned then past the end of a back road to the driveway to Borough farm, climbing and turning.
Around the farm and large house (now all mainly residential), with views across to the north downs and Hascombe hill.
After a false start around the farm, I backtracked to find the path hidden behind brambles, that led into a sheep field.
This meandered just below the hill top and down to where it crossed a back road.
Down the hidden path into a more open field with the same views as before, as well as making out the Toat monument.
The path curved around below Beedings and onto the farm of the same name.
Along the back road to pick up a path into a grass field.
The path entered a boundary and then down the side of horse paddocks to Gay Street, where I followed it to the end.
Around the houses into the open grassland (and the first major wet area of the walk).
after the fields the path crossed into Beeding's copse and the deer fields there - they were hiding in the trees.
I followed the edge of the deer fencing as it turned back on itself and down to the house entrance to Stallhouse barn.
Then along the driveway to the house of the same name, and around it and a delightful covered way back to the railway lines.
Over the rails to meet up with the driveway I started out down.
Along the drive back to the A29 and hence the college.
A good way to while away a couple of hours.
