Sue had a workshop in Monkland with her quilting circle, so I grabbed a lift with the aim to walk back home, first along the river Arrow through Lawton Cross, Eardisland and Pembridge. Then weaving a path parallel to the A44 down to Lyonshall, before returning home mainly on the back roads due to the lack of footpaths.
The weather was overcast, but dry with a slight wind. Sue parked at the village hall and I left along the back road to Monkland common.
Leaving the road at the end of the common and heading down the side of a field.
Across a fallow field and along a hedge to a small bridge into a cabbage field.
Across a metal footbridge over the river Arrow, then across a grass field towards Bury farm.
Around Lawton and up to the B4529, along this and over a roundabout with the A4110. A long section along the subsequent back road and into Eardisland.
Back over the river and down the main street.
Back onto footpaths on the south bank of the river.
Down the side of several fields, with a slight diversion to see a weir past the danger signs.
Now on straight paths as they crossed wheat fields
Arriving at Long Meadow which led to the bridge over the river Arrow on the outskirts of Pembridge.
The path continued down the side of several gardens landscaped into the slope, before opening out into afield behind the village.
The path bypassed the centre of the village and crossed the A44 at the west end, before going down a residential street.
The road mutated into a green land then into a wood near Pitfield Farm.
Next on paths over wat fields and along a green manure crop heading towards Westonbury farm.
Bypassing the farm and into the Westonbury coppice.
The path dropped down the side of an orchard to avoid a gate into the wood.
The path then hopped back across into the wood - I should have jumped the gate. The main path seemed to follow the wood track rather than the footpath.
Into a turnip field to approach a back road at Nutfield.
A sharp turn along more turnips - although this time on a less defined path. This crossed into a series of grass fields separated with stiles.
Finally out of the fields onto the back road at Weston
A zigzag around Weston Court farm, and into a cow field (following the footpath sign).
This field headed the wrong way and I found a gate to cross back onto the correct field.
Over a fallow field to find an overgrown bridge in the corner that led to a cabbage field - no path and a second overgrown stile.
Across park land outside Moor court and along some woods.
Picking up a farm track leading to The Yeld, and down to a lake beside solar panels.
Following a farm track up to and around an orchard to a back road at Moorcourt farm.
Leaving the road along the side of an orchard
Across the hedge into crop fields, working along the hedges (no real path trace) until they finished at a turnip field.
Across this field on the tractor traces.
Down the access road for a sewage works, and onto the road leading through the centre of Lyonshall.
Through a new development and up the hill to some farm buildings.
Around them and along a farm track to The Holme leaving onto the back road in Holme Marsh.
I paused at a bench here for some lunch, before continuing across the orchards leading to a back road at castel farm.
The return home would now be mainly walking along back roads.
First down to Almeley Wootton, then across to Woonton
I knew I was getting close to home as I walked down Newchurch road seeing the Hay bluff and Twmpa.
