Sue had always wanted to go to Iceland, and it seemed a good time just before
her 60th Birthday to visit and maybe see some night sky activity at the same
time. The only issue was keeping to the academic holidays, which limited
choice and extended the price
A scout around for something suitable ended up with a "fly drive" trip over 4
days mid week.
So 3am Monday morning we are fighting our way to Gatwick against bodies that
still want to be in bed.
The airport was filled with people all heading off for breaks and generally
much pushing and shoving intermixed with others wasting time, waiting for
flights. People watching soon grew tiresome as so much of it was the same.
Landing through the clouds into Keflavik airport. Experience showed as we were the first to the desk for the hire car and dealing with the paperwork while others collected their large suitcases and joined the queue.
Outside it was raining hard, and the covered way only went so far to the car ... parked high in between two others, made difficult to examine, but we could only see tar splatters, then it was off down the road.
