A local walk today, threading a way from the Durfold wood car park up to Chiddingfold, then across to Dunsfold, then a serpentine route back to the car park.
Leaving het van in the small car park just above Durfold Wood, and walked down the back road for a short way until we could get into Birch Copse - a forestry woodThe track continued along the fire break past a narrowing and into Oak Wood and subsequently Old Lands wood.
The path left the fire break and dropped into the trees to meet a second break. the map showed the path on the other side but in reality it went up the break
The break went up to a T-junction, where we continued left dropping down to a stream.
Continuing through the woods in the same direction, and crossing the road
The path continued on the other side under some power lines before dropping down to another stream.
Across the bridge and now into grasslands approaching the outskirts of Chiddingfold.
Continuing across the fields getting closer to Chiddingfold.
At the outskirts of the village we turned north through fields overlooking the back gardens across the field.
Coming out onto the A283 and dropping down to the currently closed Winterton pub. Then along the side of the stream on a wide track.
The track continued alongside the twisting stream. At one point Bertie dropped down to the water, but could not get back up... I had to slide down, nearly face planting in the water then help him up, before fighting my own way up, only to have to repeat it as I had dropped the map at the bottom!
Leaving the woods into grass fields, crossing a road and down the driveway to Pockford farm.
Through the farm buildings and along the track into a large field, then crossed the middle through the hedge and alongside more grass fields.
At Duns Farm we changed to the drive lane, that climbed up past a large house on the hill and through cow fields. The original route called to cross one of the fields to Dunsfold church, but with cows all around we bypassed them continuing on the driveway to the road.
Following the back road to circle back to the church, hidden at a bend in the road.
Taking the path beside the church and down past a wood with a surprise resident stalking around. Then out into a field beside the woods where we met a dozen cyclists going the other way, however it did show where we should cross back into the trees.
Continuing through the trees, then alongside woods and fields and back into the trees.
Coming out at White Beech lane beside the farm of the same name, we followed the road as it wound down to a stream and back up until reaching High street
There was a gate with obvious signs of people walking around it leading into the woods parallel to the road. We followed it as it wandered through Brookland Copse. We came out at a locked gate - obviously not where other used, but we climbed over and crossed the road to a bridleway on the otherside.
There was not obvious path, but as we had discovered elsewhere, we needed to go through the gate then press the gate entrance button. Down the drive, past the houses.
Down the long drive past the Dunsfold Ryse house and on past the horses to Lagfold copse.
Following the path in a relatively straight line through the Lagfold Copse
Crossing the road and down the drive to Burningfold manor stud, and a well horse hoof trodden track to the side
Turning off the track and down a path in the woods, this went past a round coral - presumably to do with horses.
The path moved through Canterbury Copse and down the side of Burntwood Kennels back to Plaistow road.
Through the field on the other side of the road and into Peartree hanger woods.
Looking up to Durfold hall and farm and a new(ish) Pond at the bottom of the slope.
Back into Oak wood then picking up the track of the outward path in Birch Copse. From here we followed the reverse of the outward route back to the van in the car park.
