AAC Walk, Amberley & South Downs

Time comes around for the next AAC day walk - this time it was to start at Amberley station, follow the SDW to Chantry Post, then drop down the south side and work back across to Burpham. Lunch in the George then back to Amberley following the Arun.

We arrived at the train station with plenty of time to find a parking space (without invading the museum parking) and met up with the advance party. the remainder arriving by train slightly late.
Leaving the train station and across the busy B2139 to make use of the footpath on the other side, and back again when we reached High Titten lane - this was the SDW and we would stay on it to Chantry Post.. Following this up the first climb of the day to reach the end of the lane and onto the foot path climbing steeply then rounding off opposite Downs farm.
From here another steep section up the chalk path to reach Amberley Mount. Behind us the Downs stretching around to Butser Hill (identifiable by its radio masts)
Easier now to reach Rackham Hill
Over the top of Rackham Hill and down to Kithurst car park. We had a brief stop for refreshments here, before continuing along the SDW and up to Kithurst Hill. The path actually contours around the hill and down to the car park at Chantry Post.
Looking down to the coast - to the north we could see up to the North downs and around to Kent.

At Chantry Post we turned down the track towards Lee Farm.
At the first barn of Lee farm we  picked up the farm driveway and followed through the farm yard and onwards beside fields and a slight rise up to Wepham Down. At the complex junction on the top of the Down we curved around the gallops and continued down the lane until it ran out in a field.
Looking down from Wepham Down towards Arundel. Following the ridge down through a sheep field.
A scruffy path led from the sheep field down to the road in Wepham. A zigzag through the village and into Burpham.
We stopped at the pub for lunch (a bit heavy for us so we just had a portion of chips, and a soft drink.)
As usual it took over 90 mins for everyone to get through their various meals and to get on our way once again.
Out of the end of the village and along a path to get down to the side of the river Arun. Initially we stayed in the field beside it - slightly soggy but manageable.

Across the railway line on a foot crossing, and we climbed up onto the river bank.
Along the berm alongside the river as it curved up to and around South Stoke
From South Stoke we followed a side branch of the river up to and across the Gurka bridge. On the other side we climbed the slope up to North Stoke
From North Stoke we followed the road back to Amberley. We could see the chalk cliffs above the museum. The road comes out beside the bridge pub, and we had to do the shuffle with the road before we could walk up the station entrance.
