A bank holiday, but there was rain in the air, and the ground all wet - there was forecast of more rain around lunchtime so Bertie and I decided to stay local and do a simple circuit around Loxwood.
Back down the village and down to the canal, up to Gennets wood lock and down the border path (similar to the last walk) then turning up the track to the farm at Gennets wood itself. Across the barley fields to Turtles farm and up to Rosemary lane and hence to Alfold. Behind the vets and down the track behind through the fields to almost touching the A281, before turning down Hook Street - a green lane.
At the complex junction we kept on in the same direction. beside Hope Rough I wanted to use a smaller path but on the ground the junction does not match the map - we eventually found it further along. This path was relatively clear of mud.
The path opened into a field with a solitary deer in the mown hay field. Through the field and down a path between it and the next field. At a driveway we curved aroudn a pond and into the woods again. Here the path was muddy once again, but once we turned down the bridleway south it improved greatly. Almost at the car parking lay-by beside the Loxwood road, we turned along the proposed quarry track. This twisted aroudn a bit along the edge of private woodland. then turning back towards the Loxwood road everything got greatly overgrown. We fought through the undergrowth and came out at a farm building before crossing the road. Once again the path was overgrown and we struggled through to the rape seed field above the canal. At the canal we crossed over and down Brewhurst lane, then followed the standard route back home.
