Wellcross Return Once Again

A late start this week due to wedding anniversary things... so I tagged along with Sue on her visit to Barbara at Wellcross. The idea was to walk home via a curve to the south. Most of this walk would be on paths I had already walked.

The usual start out the side of Wellcross and through the airfield. A short zigzag down to the river Arun, and along the path to Christ's Hospital.
Through the village and down Christ's Hospital road heading west towards Itchingfield.
Over the fields to Itchingfield, then turning down to the school and along a lane beside it.
Part way along the lane before taking a path beside a house and garden, this led into grass fields. The path ended at a back road, which I followed south for a short while.
Along a path into woods from the back road. This meandered through the woods until it came to a field where the path was dilapidated and I had to walk in the horse field.
At Shiprods farm the path came out to farm lanes, which I followed along to the junction with the A264. It came out opposite the electric emergency generating station.
Along the A264 until I could take the path opposite the care home. this started well but soon got very overgrown. Luckily it came out into a grass field which ended at the A29. Along the side of the busy road until I reached a path opposite Hayes Lane.
The path went beside Black Barn farm - an equine training facility with a number of horse wheels. Along the edge of the farm and through the fields beyond to reach Haven road.
A short section up the back road then along a track in scrubby woods that ended at a grass field.
Through the fields on a compass bearing between stiles. At the end of the fields over into the woods of Furze field.
Outside the woods and along the edge of a grass field, then through a gate onto a farm track. This track - Marles Lane - dropped down and over the end of a lake and up the other side to Leverence Farm. From the farm down a field edge to great wood.
Now on well used tracks from my local walks, through great wood and into Pond Wood.
Pond wood led down to a logging track that came out onto Okehurst Road. Up the road past Frog's Hole before taking the path down to the canal and river (Arun again, but a different branch).
Along the canal for a short section - this was the wettest part of the day, but no need to get wet this time. At the lock I followed the track up to Malham farm and joined the Wey south path
Following the Wey south path up through Drungewick Copse, and out onto Drungewick Lane. From here I took the shortcut across Malhammashfold copse, Hooklane copse, and Birch copse onto Brewhurst lane. In increasing regularity of local walks the closer to home and accompanied by the red Kites - through Headfoldswood farm on to Plaistow road and so back to Ifold and home.
