Return From Haworth

The day of our Habitation check, and the guy coming to do it offered to drop us in Haworth. I had wanted to walk down to Oxenhope and ride the steam trains, however they did not run today so we needed an alternative. I wasn't sure about spending all day in the shops and tea houses, but it was away from the campsite and we could stretch our legs.

Unfortunately (I was not that bothered really!) Tuesday seemed to be closing day in Haworth and everything, including the Bronte museum was shut for the day. So we walked down the steep hill of main street to the park and then continued down to the steam train station - as we had surmised this was also closed. So there were several alternatives open ...

  1. We could walk back up to the Bronte museum and on to the moor behind, and get picked up later
  2. We could walk along the path beside the steam train to Oxenhope, and get picked up later
  3. Alternatively we could walk back up the direct road route to the campsite.
Both 1 and 2 would involve crossing rough ground, and after last night's rain there could be some muddy patches, so we settled on option 3. What I had not thought about was the very steep climb out of the valley on the opposite side through the residential part of the village. Anyway Sue managed it and we soon crossed the A6033 and onto the back road leading to the campsite.

Along the lane past some designer residences overlooking the valley below - all had big picture windows with arm chairs behind them looking out.
Up past the wind turbine on Brow Moor to a sharp zigzag in the road. Down below we were surprised to see a train going along the track, but this was just moving a mobile crane to a different depot.
We went aroudn a stone quarry with some huge slabs of sandstone - presumably for a floor somewhere.
Finally up to the top of the moor, and we could see the caravan parking area next to the campsite. Soon back at the van just in time for a quick coffee in the onsite bar (not open for food and alcohol while we were there - limited to Wednesdays and weekends) before Danny finished his work.
Back to the van for some lunch once the work was completed, and time for Sue to have a rest after managing the 200m of vertical climbing.
